Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year

The competition was fierce--actually, this word won pretty easily, why exaggerate. Thousands of people voted, which just goes to show that there are in fact thousands of logophiles out there who have either played Counterstrike or heard about it from someone who did and adopted this word for their own purposes.

Drumroll please... the Merriam-Webster Word of the Year for 2007 is:

w00t (interjection)
expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word "yay"
w00t! I won the contest!

Previous words of the year include "truthiness," "integrity," and "blog." Liz and Valerie wonder if this might say something about the concerns of the thousands of logophiles who voted for these words. Thankfully, this year they appear to be confident that they owned the other team.
